Heartbreak for U18s

It was a game in which the Stirling Lions were favourites to win. Having beaten the Perth Glory 5 , 3 in a preseason friendly , 4 nil and 3 , 1 in the league and 3 nil in the major semi final to progress to the grand final its seemed inevitable that the Stirling boys would lift the cup.

It wasn’t to be as it seemed the Stirling boys were lacking the energy they had shown all year , to topple the glory yet again. Glory enjoyed the better of possession for most of the game thanks to a best-on-ground performance by Luc Bodna . Stirling created a few chances during the match but failed to convert. At two nil down with 10 min to go Stirling went to 3 at the back and added an extra number forward in order to get into the match . With time running out the Glory capitalised and scored on the counter.

Coach Keegan Ashley said β€œI thought we were below par today,” β€œTo play the glory so many times this season probably took the edge of the game a little. They were fired up to beat us and played well , so congratulations to them. We know we weren’t good enough on the day and have shown when we are , we are more than a match for them. We gave them to much time and space . To win the league was the main aim and we did that. The top four cup final would have been the cherry on the cake . The boys can all be proud of themselves and look forward to 2017.”
